Turnitin assignments: have I successfully submitted my work?

It is your responsibility to ensure that work for assessment is submitted by the assignment deadline. Please see this e-Submission checklist for guidance on submitting work successfully.

If you have tried to submit to Turnitin, but are not 100% sure that the submission was successful, the screenshots and information below should prove helpful.

1. I have not received a receipt for my submission

2. The View button is pale grey

3. The View button is dark grey

4. No Similarity score is shown

5. Can I still submit my work?

1. I have not received a receipt for my submission

Whenever you submit work to Turnitin, once your submission is complete you will see a Success message on screen.

Turnitin on-screen confirmation

A receipt is also emailed to your student email account. This email will be sent from TurnitinUK No Reply <noreply@turnitin.com> with the Subject heading "This is your TurnitinUK Digital Receipt".

Be sure to keep this receipt in a safe place - it will be vital if there is ever a query about whether, or when, you submitted your work.

If you do not see the Success message on screen, and you do not receive an email receipt, you should assume that your submission was not successful: go back to the Turnitin assignment, and make another attempt to submit.

You can download a copy of the digital receipt from within Turnitin.

4. No Similarity score is shown

Immediately after a paper has been submitted, you should see the word 'Processing' in the Similarity column.

Submission made - Originality Report processing

Later, once the Originality Report has been generated, you will see a similarity score in this space:

Submission made - Originality Report available

If you see nothing in this space, no submission has been made (or your submisison attempt was unsuccessful).

Submission made - Originality Report available

If you see Not Available in this space, your lecturer has either opted not to generate a similarity report, or has chosen not to make similarity reports visible to students.

Re-submitted work: Wait 24 hours to see similarity report

The Similarity Report for an assignment is usually produced within a few minutes the first time you submit. After this, when you re-submit your work to the same assignment, it will overwrite your previous submission and take 24 hours to reproduce a revised similarity report.

If you have re-submitted your work, it will take 24 hours (from the time you submitted) before you can see the new report.

If you want to see a revised similarity report and have time to act on anything it shows, make sure you re-submit your work at least 24 hours before the assignment deadline.

5. Can I still submit my work?

In any of the examples shown above

However, if the View button is pale grey, and the Submit button is pale blue, then

In this situation, there should be a separate Late submission Turnitin assignment on the course where you can submit your work.

If you have any queries, please contact your lecturer, or course administrator.
